Fireworks and Dogs

Fireworks are a fun and exciting way to celebrate Territory Day. For many dogs, though, the loud cracks and booms and flashing lights are very frightening.  More pets run away on Territory night than any other day of the year.  So it’s critical to ensure that the Nhulunbuy Corporation Animal Control, can identify your dog and contact you if they run off out of fear. 

Nhulunbuy District Local Pandemic Plan

The Northern Territory Government, the Land Councils and Aboriginal Medical Services Associated of the NT (AMSANT), working with local organisations like Miwatj Health, Laynhapuy Health, Rirratjiŋu, Gumatj and East Arnhem Regional Council, have made plans about what to do if coronavirus comes to the region. For the Miwatj region, this plan is called the Nhulunbuy District Local Pandemic Plan.

Gayŋaru Wetlands (Town Lagoon) Tours

The Nhulunbuy Corporation launched their first Lagoon Tour for the season this week.  The group enjoyed a guided tour through the tropical rainforest with our Animal Management Officer Dave. 

Planned Burn - Mount Nhulun - 6, 7 & 8 August 2021

In the coming week, the Nhulunbuy Corporation, in conjunction with Dhimurru and the Northern Territory Fire and Rescue Service will be conducting prescribed burning around the town.

Rio Tinto and the Nhulunbuy Corporation Limited (NCL) have been working together over the past two years to improve the safety of water treatment facilities across the Gove Peninsula.

Community Event & Training Exercise - DARRANDARRA

The Australian Defence Force and US Marines will conduct a friendly training exercise at the Nhulunbuy NORFORCE compound and Gove Airport, Arnhem Land from 11 to 18 June 2021. Approximately 180 - 200 personnel will participate in the exercise.  

COVID-19 VACCINE ROLLOUT UPDATE

The first round of the COVID-19 vaccine rollout on the Gove Peninsula will begin on 7 June and will run until the 18 June.

Town Lagoon Open

The Town Lagoon is now open to walkers and bicycles, strictly no vehicles.

The town lagoon remains closed. The walking tracks are still underwater and are crocodile territory.
