Did you know that the black Flying Fox is a protected species in the Northern Territory? They are important pollinators and seed dispersers for many native plants and are vitally important for healthy ecosystems.
The Gove Airport staff recently rescued a flying fox that was tangled in the barbed wire boundary fence.
This rescue mission has resulted in the airport crew developing a project to replace the top barbed wire strand with plain wire along the length of our boundary fence.
So far, approx. 600m has been replaced, with the rest to follow, and we are confident that the Gove Airport is now a Flying Fox friendly airport, and our little nocturnal friends can get about doing the great job they do for our ecosystems.
