The Nhulunbuy Corporation's Animal Management team would like to advise residents of ongoing initiatives and targeted plans to handle feral animals in or near the Nhulunbuy Town Lease. These will assist with addressing the impact feral animals have on local wildlife, domestic pets and the natural environment at large.
These initiatives include (but are not limited to):
- Strategic use of traps
- Humane euthanasia of feral animals
- Collaboration with local wildlife conversation groups
- Collaboration with Indigenous ranger groups
Our team has made significant progress and seen a reduction in reports of feral animal sightings in key areas. A large number of feral animals of all species have been relocated or euthanised - including 11 feral cats from January 1st to February 28th.
We encourage all residents to remain vigilant and report sightings of feral animals to ensure our animal management team are able to continue their excellent work, protecting our community and local wildlife. To report any sightings, please call our office on 08 8939 2200 or speak directly to our Animal Management Officer on 0419 838 064.
