The Australia Day Awards are Nhulunbuy's highest honour, recognising individual and groups who make significant contributions to the cultural and social fabric of the Nhulunbuy, Yirrkala and Gunyanara communities. These awards celebrate everyday heroes - those who go above and beyond to support others and strengthen our community.
Each year, we invite you to nominate an Australia citizen who had made a meaningful impact, whether in the past year or over an extended period, across areas such as education, health, fundraising, volunteering, business, sports, arts, culture or the environment. Nominees may be quiet achievers or those who have previously been recognised for their contributions.
Do you know someone passionate about making a difference in our community? Now is the time to recognise these exceptional individuals who dedicate their time and energy to improving Nhulunbuy, Yirrkala and Gunyanara.
The Australia Day Awards honour individuals and groups:
- Who have made a significant contribution during the current year
- And/or provided outstanding service over multiple years to enhance the lives of others
- Who are role models, quiet achievers or leaders within our community
- Their contributions may be in education, health, charitable and voluntary services, business, sports, the arts, the environment or any other sector supports the well-being of our community.
Nominations for the 2025 Australia Day Awards close on 25 October 2024.
