As of the 21st of December, the Town Lagoon will be shut to the public. This closure will be taking place due to the Nhulunbuy Corporation operating with reduced staff over the Christmas and New Years break period. With high levels of rainfall expected, the water levels within the lagoon could breach the safe limits required to have the Lagoon open to public. Without active daily monitoring, the Nhulunbuy Corporation is unable to guarantee safety of users of that track.
It is expected that the Town Lagoon will re-open on the 8th of January, dependent on water levels at that time.
