The Nhulunbuy Corporation would like to advise of the first opportunity for the disposal of asbestos at the Nhulunbuy Waste Management Facility for 2023. The dates for when the asbestos pit will be open can tentatively be set as covering one (1) working week in late June, with exact dates to be confirmed shortly. On the dates during which the asbestos pit will be accepting asbestos, it will be open strictly from 9AM to 12PM.
If your business/organisation has asbestos that it wishes to dispose of, please contact the Nhulunbuy Corporation at office@ncl.net to obtain an Application for Disposal of Asbestos. The Application must then be filled and returned by 31 May. Businesses which submit forms after this deadline will not be provided the opportunity to utilise the asbestos disposal service in June.
Dumping fees will be charged in accordance with the Nhulunbuy Corporation’s Fees and Charges, which can be viewed here: https://ncl.net.au/about-us/fees-and-charges. Please note that payment MUST be made prior to your employees/contractors taking the asbestos to the Waste Management Facility. Upon arrival, they will be required to present the payment invoice to employees from Gumatj and/or the Nhulunbuy Corporation. The following conditions will also need to be abided by:
Asbestos must be double wrapped in 200-micron heavy duty builders’ plastic and taped to seal the asbestos completely.
Quantities greater than 100kg must be transported in a sealed container and on a pallet.
Asbestos arriving outside of the aforementioned times of 9AM and 12PM will not be accepted.
