Planned Burn - Mount Nhulun

In the coming week, the Nhulunbuy Corporation, in conjunction with Dhimurru and the Northern Territory Fire and Rescue Service will be conducting prescribed burning around the town.

Prescribed burning reduces the amount of ground vegetation during cooler months to decrease the risk of bushfires that could cause greater damage later in the season. This also helps to maintain biodiversity and assist with vegetation management.

Smoke from this fire may affect visibility, for the safety of firefighting crews and other vehicles, drivers in the area are urged to slow down, turn on headlights and drive safely for the conditions.

IF SMOKE AFFECTS YOU:

•    It is recommended people shut doors and windows, and turn off air-conditioners.
•    People with asthma and pre-existing respiratory and cardiovascular illnesses should follow their pre-prepared treatment plan.
•    People with conditions exacerbated by smoke should take precautions in line with their medical advice for these circumstances.

Please be advised that there will be no access to Mt Nhulun for the duration of burning operations
