The Nhulunbuy Corporation's Animal Management team wishes to advise residents and visitors to Nhulunbuy of recent crocodile activity close to populated areas. Crocodiles activity has been reported in and around the Buffalo Creek area.
Our Animal Management team are coordinating closely with relevant authorities in order to ensure safe usage of recreational areas can continue. However, we still recommend everyone to exercise an abundance of caution in or around waterways, beaches, rivers and creeks. You can do the following to stay safe:
- Stay a safe distance from the water's edge.
- Do not enter the water where crocodiles may be present.
- Be extra vigilant when fishing, boating or camping near waterways.
In the event that you sight a crocodile or see signs of recent crocodile activity, please call the Nhulunbuy Corporation's Animal Management Officer (Tristan) immediately on 0419 838 064.
