Yalmay is known for her outstanding work as a teacher, linguist and community leader. Over four decades at Yirrkala Bilingual School, Yalmay forged the way for a bilingual teaching approach to ensure children are strong in Yolŋu Matha and culture.
She has had an immense impact on many people across East Arnhem, and has been formally recognised as a Teacher of Excellence by the NT Department of Education, Honorary University Fellow at Charles Darwin University, and is our Senior Australian of the Year 2024.
With a glass of bubbles on arrival and while enjoying a delicious three-course meal, you’ll also meet our new Chamber of Commerce NT business representative, Amy Ashton.
