Nhulunbuy wins the Territory’s Tidy Town ‘Best Large Community’ Award for 2014
The community of Nhulunbuy was a Territory’s Tidy Town finalist, taking the ‘Best Large Community’ Award for 2014, announced at Darwin on Friday 24 October 2014 by Keep Australia Beautiful Council Northern Territory.
Keep Australia Beautiful Council (NT) CEO, Heimo Schober, said, “Nhulunbuy community has demonstrated continuous improvement within a number of ‘Tidy Town’ criteria. They have a proud involvement with the Territory Tidy Towns program and it’s great to see that the Nhulunbuy Corporation has taken another Territory Tidy Towns award again this year. The community of Nhulunbuy are deserving recipients of this Tidy Towns Award’. There has been some very healthy competition between communities for the Tidy Towns Awards”.
“Certainly attributes and indicators such as pride, drive, determination and community self esteem has put Nhulunbuy at the forefront as Territory’s 33rd Tidy Town ‘Best Large Community’ Award winners and finalists, but again it’s this strong culture of ‘continuous improvement and community participation’ that has continued to hold their community at the front of the pack again this year. Corporation Staff and the people of Nhulunbuy deserve a great big pat on the back for their continued fantastic efforts”. “The people of Nhulunbuy take great pride in their community and have a rich display of heritage and culture.
The community has a special place in history, and the people share their country and heritage through their arts, crafts and sporting activities. The town’s park, playgrounds, oval, cemetery, school, offices, homes, store and buildings all shine with pride”. The Keep Australia Beautiful Council Northern Territory CEO, Heimo Schober, also stated, ‘It is always a pleasure to be able to recognise and promote the work that many dedicated individuals and communities are undertaking to continuously improve the social and environmental developments within their own communities across the Territory”.
