Nhulunbuy Mothers of Pre-schoolers (MOPS)
Uniting Church Meeting Room (adjacent to Retravision)

MOPS is a group specifically for mums with children under 5 years of age. MOPS aims to support and care for mums in a friendly, fun environment in the belief that what you do as a mum, and who you are, is important. It’s a chance for mums to relax, laugh, listen, learn, talk and socialise for a couple of hours each fortnight. Running in conjunction with MOPS is MOPPETS—a program especially for children.

The MOPPETS program includes stories, music and singing, games and craft activities and is run by a caring team of helpers. MOPS is a program of the Nhulunbuy Uniting Church, run in cooperation with other Nhulunbuy Christian churches.

Other

There are excellent recreation facilities at Nhulunbuy, including sports grounds, a community swimming pool, golf club, yacht club, recreational fishing club, surf-lifesaving club, a BMX track, skate park and speedway.

Those who love their sport can join locally-organised soccer, touch football, AFL, rugby league, golden oldies and hockey groups at the town oval — see details of sporting clubs on the following pages.

Individuals or families can become ‘key club’ members of the swimming pool, which allows 24-hour access to the facility.

Boating, fishing, four-wheel driving and camping are also popular pastimes, with a number of great fishing and camping spots close to town. Some recreational areas are located off the Rio Tinto Alcan Gove lease and are subject to permit requirements.

Locally-organised recreational activities include fishing charters, island cruises, tours to designated recreation areas, camping, beach clean-ups, Yolηu cultural experience tours, spear making, spear fishing, the annual Garma Festival, golf days, soccer games, indoor cricket, touch rugby, BBQs, quiz nights and karaoke nights. For a touch of culture, the Gove Arts Theatre stages regular productions, and there is a newly-formed Town Band and weekly movies at the Arnhem Club.
